World PR Day message. From The President, Public Relations Association of Uganda (PRAU)

Christine Wamala

Happy World PR Day! As the President of the Public Relations Association of Uganda (PRAU), this day fills me with immense pride in celebrating a profession I am passionate about. Today is a reminder of the invaluable contribution PR has made to the growth of societies.

Today with reflection of the power of PR in its art form. PR has the ability to shape narratives, shift perceptions and create meaningful impact in society. With the use of words and robust stakeholder engagement, we have positively impacted and contributed to the growth of individuals, communities and organisations.

The digital world we operate in has eased information flow and has created avenues for bilateral and multilateral conversations to be had. The digital world has given a voice to the voiceless and amplified how opinions are formed which makes the role of PR more critical than ever. PR’s are the champions of truth and transparency and it’s our responsibility to ensure accurate information is shared with the public in a timely fashion to foster better understanding and confidence.

PR has played a critical role in transforming societies, championing causes, shaping public policy, facilitating dialogue and debate and aiding in economic development. Digital media has simplified the impact of PR, permitting us to engage, inspire and mobilize communities in real time.

There is a need for us to uphold the highest standards of ethical practice in order to build public trust in our profession. We have the power to uplift communities, support the most vulnerable and marginalised by showcasing them on platforms to be heard.

Today we celebrate our craft and our contribution to society. We need to ensure we adapt and evolve with the changing media landscape. We should adopt innovative approaches to our work, and be reminded that we have the potential at influencing decision making in society.

I am proud to belong to this noble profession, positively impacting society, and shaping public opinion. Let’s work together and appreciate the value and its contribution to society.

Happy World PR Day!
